BRISTOL – Roger Williams University has the highest convenience fee in the country for college students who pay tuition with a credit card, according to a recent CreditCards.com report.
CreditCards.com, an online credit card marketplace, surveyed 300 of the largest public, private and community colleges in the United States. The report shows 97 percent of the 100 largest community colleges surveyed accept credit cards for tuition payments and 8 percent charge convenience fees. Such students paying with credit cards are required to pay an average convenience fee of 2.62 percent, or $262 for every $10,000 of tuition.
At the same time, 93 percent of public universities and 77 percent of private institutions charge convenience fees. Roger Williams University charges 3 percent. St. Joseph’s University in Pennsylvania and Miami University-Oxford in Ohio have the second-highest fee at 2.99 percent.
