BURLINGTON, Vt. – Researchers from Rhode Island, Vermont and Delaware will share a $6 million grant to study the effects of recent severe storms on state watersheds, Boston.com reported.
The researchers will install a network of high-tech sensors to gather data from underwater and transmit it remotely. The data will create a moment-by-moment portrait of what happens in certain watersheds across all three states, or what University of Vermont assistant professor of geology Andrew Schroth called “taking the pulse of the watershed.”
The researchers say the information they gather will reach beyond the local area, helping policymakers better respond to storms.
