Revolution players bartend for foundation

PROVIDENCE – New England Revolution team stars Kevin Alston, Darrius Barnes, Stephen McCarthy and Lee Nguyen traded their cleats for cocktail shakers on Sept. 5 at Ri Ra, raising more than $500 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
The all-stars were mixing and pouring cocktails for fans that stopped by between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.
All tips the players received during the event, cash or credit, are being donated directly to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven and donor-centered charity dedicated to funding childhood cancer research.
Alston returned to the team in July after an indefinite leave of absence battling chronic myelogenous leukemia.
“We all love bartending at these events and it’s always a great time meeting our fans in a different setting.” said Alston. “With the proceeds being directed to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, we were able to help fund childhood cancer research and take a step closer to ending this awful disease.”
Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has awarded more than $125 million to support lifesaving research, making the foundation the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants.
