Rhode Island Housing opens help center for foreclosure counseling

WARWICK – Rhode Island Housing recently opened a help center in Warwick to help homeowners in financial distress find alternatives to foreclosure.
The facility, at 43 Jefferson Blvd., is intended to improve the access of homeowners to free, HUD-certified counseling services.
The opening is part of a Hardest Hit program, administered by the federal government, that has provided Rhode Island with nearly $116 million in recent years. The funds are primarily used to help homeowners facing foreclosure with financial assistance or in getting loan modifications approved by lenders, according to a news release from Rhode Island Housing.
In 2010, President Barack Obama’s administration created the Hardest Hit program to help struggling families following the financial crisis and Great Recession.
Rhode Island is among 18 states and the District of Columbia that have received funding through the federal program.
