Rhode Islanders can renew their licenses online

Posted 8/22/12

CRANSTON – The R.I. Division of Motor Vehicles issued a reminder to Rhode Islanders with expiring licenses that online driver’s license renewals are available for every other renewal period.

The online renewals are part of a collaboration between the DMV and RI.gov, the state’s official website.

Prior to the online service, Rhode Islanders were required to present themselves at one of the state’s DMV offices or at AAA, if a member, in order to renew their licenses.

Now, the DMV’s online driver’s license renewal service can by accessed online at www.ri.gov/DMV/licenserenewal/ on computers as well as smarthphones and mobile devices including the iPhone, Android, iPad and iPodTouch.

In a continued effort to streamline the state’s Division of Motor Vehicles, Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee announced the online process in May and issued a reminder to residents last week.
