Rhody Fresh lands $150K federal grant

Posted:

PORTSMOUTH – Rhode Island Dairy Farms Cooperative, the cooperative that produces Rhody Fresh Milk, landed a $150,000 federal grant to help upgrade its production facilities, reported the Associated Press.

The grant, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was announced by Sen. Jack Reed on Monday morning during a visit to Escobar’s Highland Farm.

The dairy cooperative plans to use the funding to “bolster its next phase of marketing, upgrade production facilities, and help create new products,” according to a release from the senator’s office.

The $150,000 grant to the Rhode Island co-op was one of 110 awarded throughout the United States, according to the news source, which added that more than 430 farming and agricultural producers nationwide applied for the funds.

The Rhody Fresh Milk group comprises nine dairy farms around the state and its products are sold at retail stores and markets across the region.
