Robotics team places fifth at World’s

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Aquidneck Island 4-H Team 78, AIR Strike, placed fifth out of 400 teams at the FIRST Robotics Competition’s world championship competition in St. Louis, according to EastBayRI.com.

The three-day FIRST – For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology – competition featured teams of high school students that were given six weeks to build a robot to compete in a game.

The game varies from year. This year, the students played ‘Rebound Rumble,’ where teams of robots tried to score as many basketballs into hoops as possible during a 2 minute, 15 second match.

Thirty-five high school students from 12 high schools across Rhode Island make up the AIR Strike team, according to the news source.
