CHICAGO – John Rodman, director of museum experience for the Preservation Society of Newport County, has been named the 2013 Nonprofit Marketer of the Year by the American Marketing Association and the American Marketing Association Foundation. He is slated to be recognized July 16 in Arlington, Va., at the 2013 AMA Nonprofit Marketing Conference.

Rodman is being recognized for his achievement managing visitor services, public relations and marketing as director of museum experience at the Newport Mansions.

“This award recognizes John Rodman’s innovation and success in creating new visitor experiences and leading our communications and customer service team,” Preservation Society CEO and Executive Director Trudy Coxe said in prepared remarks. “That in turn is a reflection of the entire organization’s commitment to excellence and innovation.”

Under Rodman’s direction the Newport mansions have become one of the top four museums visited in New England and the most popular attraction in the Ocean State. A $1 million investment culminated in the addition of four new tours over the past four years. Following the additions and an extended season, the mansions saw an 11 percent increase in admissions in 2012, the highest in a decade.

Rodman credited his team for his success, saying in a statement that “building a world-class brand for a major museum starts with having a world-class organization to promote. To then be recognized for marketing success as a museum in the company of all manner of nonprofit organizations really underlines the phenomenal quality of the entire team with which I work at The Preservation Society of Newport County.”
