BankNewport recently announced its second-year partnership with Rogers High School in Newport, to sponsor a youth financial literacy program during the 2013-2014 academic school year. The program complements the high school’s personal financial education initiative for students and consists of monthly classroom presentations by BankNewport’s management team on topics that included: careers, savings, checking accounts, debit cards, online banking, online bill payment, financial planning, credit and budgeting.
“Having strong financial skills is so important in the larger framework of how to manage one’s everyday life,” said BankNewport President and CEO Sandra Pattie. “The opportunity for our team to share their expertise with the students at Rogers High School is extremely rewarding. We want them to be knowledgeable and confident in their financial choices, and achieve success as future employees, parents and members of our community.”
In April, the students will participate in a culminating event at the school and sponsored by the bank, which places students through a realistic budgeting experience similar to the spending decisions made by young adults. •
