SBA to host computer security workshop in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – On Friday, June 28, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Rhode Island SCORE chapter will host a workshop for the state’s small businesses.
The workshop, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Joel Tobey Amphitheater at Amica Insurance in Lincoln, is offered free of charge.
Along with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Small Business Administration and SCORE are teaming up to help small business owners increase information system security.
The workshops aim to teach business owners how to define information security, provide examples of common types of threats and understand how to determine the extent to which an organization should proactively address threats, learn common practices and procedures to operate more securely and hear a basic explanation of current technologies used to reduce information security vulnerabilities and the resources available to strengthen information security.
The June 28 workshop will be presented by nationally-recognized computer security expert Richard Kissel, a senior information security analyst at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. For the past six years, Kissel has planned and conducted information security workshops for small business owners and operators across the U.S.
