SBANE breakfast to bring clarity to state budgeting, oversight

Posted 11/27/12

PROVIDENCE - The Small Business Association of New England continues its breakfast series on Dec. 5, with featured speakers Peter Marino, director of the R.I. Office of Management and Budget, and Leslie Taito, director of regulatory and quality management for the R.I. Economic Development Corporation. The topic will be “The New Office of Management and Budget: Creating Transparency and Accountability.”

The newly created office will be responsible for the development and oversight of the governor’s budget plan, the performance management program, a new federal grants management unit and the office of regulatory reform.

The goal of its strategic long-term plan is to establish a comprehensive public finance and management system for Rhode Island that manages a data-driven budget process, monitors state departments and agency performance, maximizes the application for and use of federal grants, creates a clear, predictable and reliable regulatory system, and ensures accountability and transparency to Rhode Island citizens regarding the use of public funds.

The office also will assume responsibilities from the Governor’s Office of Economic Reinvestment and Recovery for the oversight of remaining federal stimulus funds.

The breakfast will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Providence-in Warwick on Wednesday, Dec. 5, with 7 a.m. registration, 7:30 a.m. breakfast and 8 a.m. program. Call SBANE at (781) 890-9070 for more information.
