SCA port sponsor of Volvo Ocean Race North American stopover

NEWPORT – SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company and sponsor of an all-women’s team in the Volvo Ocean Race, will be an official sponsor in the North American Volvo Ocean Race Stopover here, the company and Sail Newport, a stopover host, said Tuesday.
SCA will be the sustainability and sustainability education sponsor for the stopover between May 5 and May 17 – the only North American port in the nine-month global voyage. Team SCA is the first all-female team to sail the race in more than a decade.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better corporate partner,” said Brad Read, executive director of Sail Newport and director of the Newport Stopover. “The company is one of the global leaders in driving sustainability and hygiene standards around the world and ensuring that essential hygiene solutions are accessible to all. We have no doubt that SCA will add tremendous value to our sustainability plan.”
That plan aligns with the company’s mission to educate communities about waste reduction, water conservation and energy efficiency, Read said.
As part of the partnership, and in honor of Team SCA’s magenta boat, SCA will host an SCA Magenta Music Night, which will include an evening of live music and activities for Newport Race Village visitors. Additional details about the concert series will be announced closer to May.
As a sponsor and “silver-level” corporate partner, SCA will provide expertise to support zero-waste and recycling efforts and provide tissue and hygiene products for the 12-day public event.
“Like their hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, we couldn’t be prouder of what Team SCA is achieving in this race, and we know that the team has an army of loyal fans waiting for their arrival in Newport,” said Amy Bellcourt, vice president of communications for SCA Americas.
“It’s a real privilege for SCA to be able to sponsor the Newport Stopover, not only to celebrate Team SCA and all the teams, but also to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and our respect for nature,” she added. “And we know Sail Newport and the state of Rhode Island shares those values, too.”
In North America, SCA produces the Tork line of dispensers, towels, tissue, soap, napkins and wipers used in commercial settings and the TENA line of incontinence care products used by consumers at home and in healthcare facilities.
Besides Sail Newport, hosts for the stopover at Fort Adams State Park include the R.I. Dept. of Environmental Management, Discover Newport and the city of Newport.
