SVPRI highlights locally-made gift ideas

PROVIDENCE – Need some ideas for stocking stuffers and holiday presents? Social Ventures Partners Rhode Island has some gift ideas that will make you feel like it is money well spent.

Cookies that provide job training for people with disabilities; tea that facilitates sustainable development for indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon; T-shirts and stationary that support art education and employment for underserved teens.

Those are just a few of the locally-made stocking stuffer ideas SVPRI has highlighted this year along with its “10 Unique Social Enterprise Gift Ideas” list.

“One of the things that makes Rhode Island unique is the scope of social enterprises in this state. These businesses not only offer high-quality, locally made products, but also support social causes in our community. When you Buy With Heart [the SVPRI umbrella campaign] this holiday season, you get unique gifts and create a local, social impact at the same time,” said Mary Bergeron, program director.

Among the holiday gift list are classes at local organizations like The Steel Yard and the RiverzEdge Arts, or a T-shirt from Happy Shirts – with an image of what makes you happy (think: yoga, beer, camping) and the “my happy” tagline – the company will send a matching T-shirt or onesie to a child or refugee for every shirt purchased.
