LINCOLN – Security Innovation Inc. has acquired Safelight Security Advisors, a Rhode Island company specializing in information security and software-developer training, for an undisclosed sum.

According to a news release issued Wednesday, the acquisition strengthens Wilmington, Mass.-based Security Innovation’s established expertise in applications security training for information security and IT risk organizations.

All Safelight staff will join Security Innovation as part of the acquisition, and Safelight executives will assume leadership roles within the company’s business units, which now include application security, information security and embedded security.

A spokesperson for Security Innovation could not be reached for comment on whether Safelight’s operations would be relocated out of Rhode Island following the acquisition.

“Security Innovation’s training solutions are our fastest growing line of business,” said Ed Adams, CEO of Security Innovation, in the release. “Safelight’s expertise in [information security] and privacy awareness and their commitment to excellence will raise the competitive bar even further and accelerate growth in a market hungry for high-quality security education.”

Despite billions of dollars spent on security products, lack of security education continues to put organizations at risk, said Security Innovation, citing research from The Ponemon Institute. Security Innovation and Safelight address this risk through their combined curriculum of more than 80 courses, totaling 120 hours, with coverage of all major software-development languages, computing platforms and data-security topics.

Due to the strong brand-loyalty of Safelight customers, the company’s product line will remain unchanged in the short-term, Security Innovation said, and will serve as the cornerstone of the company’s information security training arm.
