BRISTOL – Bristol is one of the safest college towns in the country, according to Safewise.com
The website, which provides home security reviews, comparisons and advice, released its list of the top 50 safest college towns last week, and Bristol, home to Roger Williams University, ranked 16th. The website makes note of the Department of Public Safety at RWU, which it said is known for its Twitter feed and safety programs on texting and driving.
“Off campus, the city police also manage a live Twitter feed with traffic and accident updates broadcasted in real-time,” the website stated.
The safest college town in the country is Brookings, South Dakota, home to South Dakota State University.
Safewise.com used FBI crime statistics from 2013 to come up with its findings. It calculated the total number of crimes committed in each American town with at least one academic institution of higher education. Those numbers were then weighted in relation to population statistics and other factors. It also researched relevant safety, health and educational programs.
