BOSTON – Boston Beer Co., the parent of the Samuel Adams beer brand, has acquired the Coney Island beer brand from Shmaltz Brewing Co. for an undisclosed sum, according to the Boston Business Journal.
Based on BBJ research through U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings, Boston Beer subsidiary, Alchemy & Science, bought the brand from Shmaltz, which will continue to brew the Coney Island brand until it can handle the brewing duties.
Brewbound.com reported that talks leading to the acquisition began in 2012. The new owners of the brand intend to focus on the New York metro area and New Jersey markets, as well as re-design the marketing of the beer.
Alchemy & Science now owns and markets four craft beer brands, according to Brewbound, including Angel City Brewery, The Traveler Beer Co., and Just Beer. The website added that a fifth, unnamed project is set to debut within three months.
