WARWICK – The Sargent Rehabilitation Center, which specializes in providing rehabilitation and education services to children and adults impacted by traumatic injury and stroke and other neurological disorders, recently celebrated the completion and opening of its certified green playground/recreation and sensory/reflection garden.
According to Marilyn F. Serra, Sargent Center president and CEO, the project began as a $12,000 initiative to move the center’s former playground, built for young children, for expansion but took on a wider scope to accommodate the center’s growing and changing population.
The new playground provides accessibility for students aged 3-21 with severe sensory-motor disabilities.
“[It] is unlike any other that exists at a comprehensive outpatient medical rehabilitation center in Rhode Island,” Serra said in a statement.
Funders of the nearly $200,000 project include The Champlin Foundations, June Rockwell Levy Foundation, The Fogarty Foundation, Ocean State Charities, and the Rhode Island Legislative and Sargent Center Capital Campaign.
