Schilling seeks lawsuit dismissal

BOSTON – Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has filed court documents asking R.I. Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein to throw out the state of Rhode Island’s lawsuit against him and others at now-defunct videogame company 38 Studios LLC, reported The Boston Globe.

The lawsuit, which was filed by the R.I. Economic Development Corporation in November, claimed Schilling, other 38 Studios executives and former EDC officials misled the EDC board over the risks involved with the company to secure a $75 million loan guarantee.

Schilling called the claims “implausible,” according to the news source. The filing seeking case dismissal claims that Schilling and the other 38 Studios defendants repeatedly and regularly disclosed the company’s financial needs to EDC officials.

The company filed for bankruptcy in June after defaulting on the $75 million loan guarantee from the state. All told, including interest, Rhode Island’s taxpayers are on the hook for roughly $100 million.
