Scholar grant to aid Hasbro research

Hyundai Hope On Wheels, along with Providence-area Hyundai dealers, recently awarded a $75,000 scholar grant to Hasbro Children’s Hospital to support pediatric cancer research.
The funds will aid Dr. Nadine Sauer, a second-year fellow at Hasbro, in her research on the relationship between an individual’s genetic make-up and its vulnerability to chemotherapy-related side effects.
“Dr. Sauer’s research is a vital piece of the fight to find a cure for childhood cancer and to better the quality of life for children battling this disease,” said Cindy Schwartz, director of hematology/oncology at the hospital.
The grant was officially presented during a handprint ceremony, where children affected by cancer dipped their hands in colorful paint before placing them on a new, white Hyundai Tucson.
Hasbro Children’s hospital was one of 43 organizations this year to receive a scholar grant from the Hope On Wheels program. To date, the hospital has received $290,000 from the non-profit organization.
