School for marine trade skills raises $1 million from gala

NEWPORT – IYRS School of Technology & Trades, which teaches experiential marine-trade skills, raised more than $1 million at its annual summer gala on July 12, a record for the school.
The fundraiser sponsored by Fidelity Investments and Prestige Jaguar drew 650 supporters and more than 20 other sponsors.
Combined, sponsorship support, table sales and auctions raised more than $1 million, said IYRS President Terry Nathan.
“IYRS is building support as it experiences growing enrollment and continued extraordinary student outcomes,” said Nathan. “More than 90 percent of our graduates were employed on or about the time they completed their programs this past year.”
In its second year, the gala raised about $100,000 more than it did last year, he noted. •
