Searight honored for Food4Good mobile soup kitchen

PROVIDENCE – Social Enterprise Greenhouse awarded its first-ever Food Impact Award to Julius Searight, founder and director of Food4Good.

The award was given to Searight on behalf of his work with Food4Good, the city’s first food truck and mobile soup kitchen initiative. He received the award Oct. 24, at a Food Day celebration and panel hosted by SEG at the SEG Hub, 10 Davol Square.

In addition to the award, Searight also received a monetary gift to continue his work with the food-insecure population.

“Being able to run a business that is successful, and also provides meals to the food-insecure population is an honor. I’m very happy to accept this award, and to announce that we are on track to give over 5,000 meals to those in need by the end of the month,” Searight said.

Food4Good provides healthy meals to those in need by generating funds from sales. For every $5 a consumer spends at the truck, two meals can be provided to someone in need.

The Food Day celebration also included a panel discussion with Sue AnderBois, director of food strategy, Rhode Island; Thea Upham, program director, community access; Farm Fresh RI; David Dadekian and Katie Kleyla, president and director of development, Eat Drink RI; Philip Trevvett, vice chairperson, Urban Greens Food Co-op; and Leo Pollock, network director, Rhode Island Food Policy Council and co-founder of the Compost Plant.
