Seasons gives to Gloria Gemma

PAWTUCKET – Seasons Corner Market has donated $50,000 to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation to put toward the Foundation’s use of its Hope Bus.
The Hope Bus, which next hits the road in April of 2015, delivers breast health information and services, including support, to people directly in their communities.
Owned by Colbea Enterprises, the Seasons Corner Market convenience stores serve Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
“Breast cancer affects so many people in our local communities, and we have a desire to keep funds local,” said Thomas Breckel, vice president of operations at Colbea Enterprises.
A family member was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, which made his organization consider the Gloria Gemma Foundation for a charitable contribution, he said.
“After connecting with the organization’s staff, our understanding and appreciation of their work and impact in the community grew stronger,” Breckel added.
Seasons Corner Market’s contribution is taken from a portion of proceeds raised from the fourth annual Colbea Cup Golf Tournament that took place in September. Also known as The David Main Memorial Golf Tournament, the Colbea Cup was created in honor of David Main—a convenience store employee who tragically lost his life in 2010.
Maria Gemma, executive director at the Gloria Gemma Foundation, said the donation will expand the bus’s reach in the community.
“We introduced the Hope Bus four years ago, and it has since been a critical to our ability to reach people directly in their own communities,” said Gemma. “We are so grateful for support and commitment from Seasons Corner Market, and are very proud to be aligned with a brand that evokes that local ‘neighborhood feeling.’”
The Hope Bus offers access to free resources including one-on-one consultations, patient and survivor support groups led by licensed facilitators, and walk-in breast health and awareness classes. State outreach workers often join the Foundation on the Hope Bus to schedule free mammograms and clinical breast exams offered by the state through a program partially funded by the Gloria Gemma Foundation.
In October, Seasons Corner Market also had a tent set up in “Celebration Village” at Station Park in downtown Providence – the location of Gloria Gemma’s annual Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life event, and provided a team that participated in the Gloria Gemma 5K.
