Segue Institute seeks planning committee

CENTRAL FALLS – Segue Institute for Learning, a charter school opened in 2009, is actively seeking interested community-based service providers to form a planning committee for community programs and services at its new Segue MAGn’t Annex.

The institute purchased the former Cowden Street community center in November will the goal of developing it into a full-service community center and social-services provider.

The community center closed in 2011 due to financial hardship after serving as a community resource since 1923.

“Now is an ideal time to join us on the ground level of what will become a tremendous community-altering resource,” said Angelo Garcia, founder of the institute, in a statement. “In a time when funding and grants are scarce, collaboration is the key to success. Together we can stretch more dollars and reach more families in need.”

Segue also working to build support from residents and elected officials and reports it is working with U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s office to procure the donation of a 15-passenger van or mini bus for community use.

Segue operates to provide small class sizes, individualized attention, strong board and parental involvement, and intensive community partnerships.
