ATTLEBORO – Sensata Technologies Holding N.V. was the recipient of the University of Rhode Island 2012 President’s Corporate Award, the company announced Monday.

Sensata Technology CEO Tom Wroe was also recognized as one of four distinguished URI alumni at the school’s 2012 Distinguished Achievement Awards program event held on Oct. 27 in Newport.

University President David M. Dooley recognized Sensata’s success as a world leader and innovator in mission-critical sensors and controls as well as its work with the school’s International Engineering Program.

The company, and its predecessor, the Sensors & Controls business of Texas Instruments, have supported the school’s IEP program for more than a decade. Support has included student internship experiences as well as board-level assistance to highlight the importance of cross-cultural engineering education to businesses and organizations across the country.

Donna Kimmel, the company’s senior vice president of human resources, has served on the IEP board of directors for the past seven years and has taken an active role in promoting the program in national education initiatives.

Wroe, who graduated from URI in 1972 and received an honorary degree in 2006, was honored for his work in preparing engineers for the global workforce and especially his support of the URI IEP program.

Other President’s Award honorees included Cornelius M. Kerwin, class of 1973 and president of American University; Ernest Mario, who earned both master’s and doctoral degrees from URI (in 1963 and 1966, respectively), and is chairman and CEO of Capnia; and Blanche R. Murray, class of 1941, retired educator and first female president of the URI Foundation and the URI Alumni Association.
