PROVIDENCE – ShapeUp Inc., a provider of wellness solutions focusing on fitness, is offering specialty programs such as stress management and sleep quality, through its new ShapeUp Select program.
The company this week announced four partners for ShapeUp Select: meQuilibrium in Boston; Claritas Mindsciences, Worcester, Mass., Wellness Corporate Solutions, in Bethesda, Md.; and Zipongo, of San Francisco.
Through ShapeUp Select, employers and employees can find the wellness solution they are looking for in one place, according to the company.
“Creating an effective, engaging, and holistic employee well-being program doesn’t have to be complicated,” Dr. Rajiv Kumar, founder and CEO of ShapeUp, said. “With ShapeUp Select, we offer employers a broad selection of the best-of-the-breed well-being solutions in the marketplace, and then make it easy for them to make those programs available to their employees in a simplified, integrated way.”
Kumar, in an email, said that ShapeUp Select “takes all of the best practices and learnings we’ve collected over 10 years of working in employee wellness and extends them to excellent programs that exist beyond the realm of physical health.”
For example, meQuilibrium offers a digital coaching program that helps employees manage stress.
“With meQuilibrium, employers empower their employees to build resilience and improve their ability to cope with stress – whether it comes from family, work or money – through a self-managed digital coaching solution,” Jan Bruce, co-founder and CEO of meQuilibrium, said in statement. “The result is a resilient workforce that is more engaged, productive and present.”
Claritas Mindsciences offers programs for smoking cessation (Craving to Quit) and healthy eating (Eat Right: NOW!), while Wellness Corporate Solutions delivers biometrics screenings that help employees learn about their health status.
Zipongo provides a nutrition program to make healthy eating easier and more accessible.

“By providing tools that make it easy to eat well, Zipongo can help guide users to make better food choices on a daily basis,” Dr. Jason Langheier, founder of Zipongo, said. “Studies have repeatedly shown that positive changes in eating behavior will lead to improvements in overall health and well-being. ShapeUp works with customers that are actively trying to improve the lives of their employees, and we believe Zipongo will give them another way to accomplish that goal.”

ShapeUp offers a suite of well-being programs and physical activity challenges, and its platform is used by more than 700 employers in 138 countries.
In other news, it announced that it will no longer offer online fitness challenges in Rhode Island, and instead is refocusing its mission to offer new activities, such as giving grants to nonprofits for projects that support health in underserved populations, holding community wellness events and conducting special research projects to help define the future of health promotion on a global scale.
“I started this organization during my first year at Brown Medical School as a campaign to promote healthier lifestyles in Rhode Island. Since then, we’ve been proud to host our popular and effective statewide fitness challenges on an annual basis. Dozens of community organizations, hundreds of employers and tens of thousands of Rhode Islanders joined our campaign over the years, and we are incredibly grateful for their support and enthusiasm,” Kumar said.
“Together, by leveraging the power of social support and grassroots change, we’ve made a tremendous and lasting impact on the health of our fellow Rhode Islanders, judged not only by the published studies that demonstrate our success, but also by the countless success stories that have poured in from people across the state. We thank the entire community for their support of our efforts over the past decade, and we look forward to continuing our work to improve the health and lives of our fellow Rhode Islanders,” he said.
