Should Lifespan combine The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital?

Posted 7/27/09

Last week Lifespan announced that it was considering merging the operations of The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital in a cost-saving measure.

Management said there would be no job or service losses, although they were not specific on how the hospital group would save money without taking at least some of those steps.

Do you believe that it is possible for Lifespan to save money and maintain quality if it combines the two free-standing institutions?
