PROVIDENCE – Brown University offers the best value in Rhode Island, followed by Bryant University. The University of Rhode Island is ranked third, but first among public schools.
The rankings are provided by SmartAsset, which examined five factors for best value among colleges and universities in all 50 states. Those factors cover tuition, student living costs, scholarship and grant offerings, retention rate and starting salary.
The other schools ranked in descending order for best value, after URI, are: Roger Williams University, Johnson & Wales University, Salve Regina University, Providence College, Rhode Island College and Rhode Island School of Design.
Brown and Bryant universities and Providence College are ranked first, second and third in Rhode Island for their students earning the highest average starting salaries at $52,300, $51,800 and $49,100 respectively.
Based in New York City, SmartAsset is a financial technology company that provides “transparent, automated, and accurate advice on big personal finance decisions,” according to its website.
The best value and student earnings listings included nine colleges and universities in Rhode Island, but only the “student living costs” listing includes New England Institute of Technology, ranked seventh, and the Community College of Rhode Island, ranked ninth. The college tuition and student living cost listings include nursing, trucking and other types of schools.
The New England Institute of Technology did not have data for average starting salary and student retention rate, while stats for the Community College of Rhode Island were unavailable, a SmartAsset spokesman said.
