SmartAsset: Kent County leads R.I. for insurance coverage

Kent County residents have the most insurance coverage among the five counties in Rhode Island, according to SmartAsset’s second annual insurance- coverage study.
The financial-services website said 84.05 percent of Kent County residents have auto-insurance coverage, 92.67 percent have health insurance coverage and 36.11 percent have life-insurance coverage. Kent County’s national rank was No. 1,667.
Providence County has the lowest overall coverage among the five Ocean State counties, with 79.69 percent of residents having auto insurance, 87.63 percent with health insurance and 40.02 percent with life insurance. Providence County’s national rank was No. 2,384.
Lincoln County in South Dakota ranked the highest in the nation for insurance coverage, with rates of 91.6 percent for auto coverage, 95 percent for health insurance and 71.37 percent for life insurance.
Cherokee County, Okla., ranked last in the nation for its 71.24 percent auto-insurance coverage rate, 74.57 percent health-insurance coverage rate and 23.72 percent life-insurance coverage rate.
SmartAsset said it ranked 3,140 counties in its study based on population coverage rates across the three forms of insurance.
