Smith Hill, Sojouner team for housing project

PROVIDENCE – The Smith Hill Community Development Corp. and Sojourner House this month announced plans for the state’s first supportive housing project for domestic-abuse survivors, the Brown Daily Herald reported.
The house will serve three families. If successful, it will be the first of many such projects, Smith Hill Community Development Corp. acting Executive Director Jean Lamb told the paper.
Smith Hill will own and manage the building. Sojourner House will manage cases and provide programming.
Expected to be completed by next summer, the project is funded by $150,000 from the Building Homes Rhode Island Fund and $235,000 from Rhode Island Housing, with additional seed money from the United Way of Rhode Island.
In order to maintain and protect the privacy of residents, an unveiling ceremony was held at the Smith Hill Community Development offices, rather than at the site of the future apartment complex. •
