PROVIDENCE – The sixth annual Masquerade Ball hosted by Sojourner House has raised more than $75,000 in support of the organization’s mission to aid victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Vanessa Volz, the organization’s executive director, said 2016, the 40th anniversary, was a successful year for Sojourner House. She explained the organization now serves victims of sexual assault, opened Rhode Island’s first shelters for male victims of domestic violence and human trafficking and provided Sojourner House’s first permanent residences for families hurt by domestic violence.

“Fundraisers like our annual Masquerade Ball are not only a great way to raise funds for our organization, but also a great way to celebrate our successes,” she said.

Held on Friday, Nov. 18, more than 350 guests attended the event in Cuban attire for the Havana Nights theme hosted by Lulu Locks. Miss Kitty Litter, a Rhode Island-based drag queen, managed the live auction, which netted $17,000 from individual donors for items like a Disney vacation package.
