Solar farm plan would mean $2M gain for Lincoln

LINCOLN – Representatives of the town and Southern Sky Renewable Energy are drafting an agreement that would allow the town to participate in a solar-powered system to save money on its monthly electrical bill.

Over 25 years, the town is expected to see about $2 million in benefits from the project, which will combine enhanced tax revenue and savings on electricity, said Ralph Palumbo, managing director at Southern Sky, The Valley Breeze reported Aug. 24.

Town Council members recently heard from Palumbo for the first time about the plans for a solar farm that is expected to be built on commercial land near Quality Drive, off New England Drive in the industrial park.

Construction for about 4,000 panels of a 1.4 mega-watt solar array, which will span about 5 acres of land, is slated to begin by the end of September or beginning of October, Palumbo said.

The solar farm will be connected to National Grid. From there, electricity credits would be dispensed to the town at a discounted price. •
