Solar panels to save NAC $200K

SOMERSET — A $7 million project expansion and investment by Horner Millwork includes a 1½-megawatt solar system that will generate enough savings to nearly pay for the company’s full electricity needs, The Herald News reported Nov. 13.

The custom maker of windows, doors, kitchens and stairs is owned by North Atlantic Corp. Horner will have its rooftop solar system connected to National Grid by the end of the year, said Karl Almond, senior special projects manager.

Almond said the company will save about $200,000 in annual electricity costs.

He said 4,250 solar panels, producing 1,551 kilowatts, are nearly fully installed on the existing warehouse and production buildings and a 45,000-square-foot addition to the manufacturing facility. •
