WARWICK – Starting today, the community-based campaign, Solarize Warwick, is making it possible for residents and businesses of the city to go solar.

This campaign is part of Solarize Rhode Island, which began in 2014, and has provided 350 residents and business with solar power access.

“Over the course of recent months there has been an increased interest from both residential and commercial parties in solar energy,” Mayor Scott Avedisian said in prepared remarks. “Warwick has worked tirelessly to become a leader that protects our natural resources. As we continue to educate residents about the solar options available to them, we also hope to increase general awareness about the benefits, both economic and environmental, of solar energy.”

Solarize Warwick is modeled to reduce the cost of solar power, as well as help people to switch to this energy alternative. There has been success with this residential model in more than 100 communities in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont, according to a press release from the city of Warwick.

SolarFlair Energy Inc., an Ashland, Mass., company with an office in North Smithfield, will be the primary solar installer for residents until the program ends Sept. 29.

Residents of Warwick can attend “Solarize Warwick Solar 101” on Aug. 16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, to educate themselves about going solar. For information, visit www.solarizeri.com/Warwick or call 401-349-3475.
