South County Hospital earns top safety rating

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – For the third consecutive quarter, South County Hospital has received an “A” Hospital Safety Score rating from The Leapfrog Group. It was the only hospital in Rhode Island to earn the designation.
The rating is a piece of information consumers can use when planning a hospital stay, according to the Leapfrog Group. The group recommends health care consumers use hospitals that receive an “A” Hospital Safety Score.
“We are pleased to learn of our A rating from Leapfrog,” said South County Hospital President and CEO Lou Giancola. “We strive every day to meet nationally recognized standards.”
According to Leapfrog, the safety factors measured include hand-washing, computerized medication control and nurse staffing levels.
The designation program aspires to make safety and quality information more widely available to the public in a way that is easy for consumers to understand. •
