South County offers new 3-D mammogram option

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – South County Hospital recently began offering 3-D breast tomosynthesis, an additional tool for breast cancer screening, at its main South County Hospital campus as well as its East Greenwich wellness center.

The exams are similar to traditional mammograms, but use high-powered computing to create thin layers – or “slices” – of breast tissue images to create a three-dimensional composite.

The new technology qualifies South County Hospital as a Pink Ribbon Facility, indicating recognition for superior breast health care paired with support of women in the community.
