SOUTH KINGSTOWN – South County Health is the new name of the health care system associated with South County Hospital.
The name change was made official by a vote of the organization’s board of trustees.
The former name, South County Hospital Healthcare System, did not reflect the amount of service provided outside the hospital itself, according to South County Health President and CEO Louis Giancola.
“The old system name was hospital-centric, long, and bureaucratic sounding,” Giancola said. “We believe the new name better reflects the reason we are here as well as our interactions with the community—more than half of which happen outside the walls of this hospital.”
The renamed health care system has a new vision statement, which was drafted in association with the new name for the organization. The statement reads: “To forge extraordinary connections with our community that support health at every stage of life.”
The URL for the system’s website has been changed to southcountyhealth.org.
