Southwest ends Green-Philly flights

A Southwest Airlines Co. Boeing 737-7H4 plane takes off from Love Field Airport in Dallas.
Posted 1/31/12

BOSTON – Southwest Airlines will end flights to Philadelphia from T.F. Green on Feb. 11, as previously announced, a spokeswoman confirmed, part of a move that will see the elimination of all 13 daily flights connecting New England to the City of Brotherly Love.

The airline is “right-sizing” its Philadelphia operations, the Mass. Market blog said, rather than curtailing its New England operations.

The flight cuts, affecting T.F. Green, Manchester, N.H., and Boston's Logan Airport, were previously announced in July.

Mass. Market said there will be 52 daily flights out of Philadelphia once the cuts are in place.

USAirlines now offers two AM full body plane flights to Philadelphia. Lowest rate is $520 round trip. Several commuter planes at same price. Southwest offers many flights to from Baltimore. Round trip from $140, one third the cost of USAirlines.

Passengers flying out of Green are going to see more and more of this kind of pricing as the Airport Corporation keeps raising rates. That's why encouraging the Airport Corporation to extend the main runway with the airlines paying all the cost is an incredibly brain dead idea!

Instead of reposting a press release which readers can find anywhere, how about giving subscribers some value, PBN?

Why not tell us how many Philly flights are continuing from Manchester and Boston? Where are the interviews with R.I. businesses that used these lost flights?
