PROVIDENCE – Michael Souza, president of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island, announced Tuesday that he is leaving that position, effective March 24, to join Landmark Medical Center as its new CEO.

Souza’s new position at Landmark takes effect March 27.

Souza will replace Richard Charest, who retired as CEO on Feb. 17, according to a human resources representative at the Woonsocket-based acute care hospital, which is a member of Prime Healthcare.
Bryan Burklow, Prime Healthcare Services’ regional chief operations officer, said in a statement that “Souza has the expertise and business acumen to take the helm as CEO and president of Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island.”

“Both organizations are poised for continued growth and prosperity. We are very pleased that Mike will be joining Prime Healthcare Services as we continue to invest in the Rhode Island community,” Burklow said.

Souza, who earlier served HARI as its senior vice president and vice president of finance, was named HARI president in 2014. Earlier, he had worked at Signature Healthcare in Brockton, Mass., and Landmark Medical Center, where he served as director of financial planning.

Souza told Providence Business News that HARI has not yet made a decision on his successor.
