PROVIDENCE – Today feels like spring, but tomorrow will feel more like winter.
The National Weather Service said a winter storm warning is in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday to midnight Thursday night for Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. It said snowfall is expected to affect morning and evening commutes, and between 6 and 12 inches is expected.

The National Weather Service said travel will be hazardous due to poor visibility, and said blowing and drifting snow is possible. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph. The temperature is expected to fall to 21 degrees by 5 p.m. There also is the potential of “thunder snow.”

The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition is rescheduling its free business plan writing workshop that was slated for Thursday at Tech Collective to Feb. 21 due to the snowstorm.
Several communities have already announced parking bans, including Cranston and Providence.

Providence Public Schools also will be closed on Thursday.
