St. Elizabeth Community to acquire care provider, Cathleen Naughton

EAST GREENWICH – Saint Elizabeth Community, a nonprofit serving senior citizens and adults with disabilities, plans to acquire Cathleen Naughton Associates, a home care provider operating out of Providence and South Kingstown.

Steven J. Horowitz, president and CEO of St. Elizabeth Community, announced Friday that his organization has signed an asset purchase agreement with the home care provider, which employs 121. The transaction is pending approval in the Rhode Island Department of Health, he said. Other details were not available.

Cathleen Naughton Associate provides skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services, certified nursing assistants, geriatric care management, and concierge services. The firm serves approximately 675 individuals a year, with staff making about 17,000 home visits annually, Horowitz said.

“These services complement the spectrum of care already provided by St. Elizabeth Community,” said Horowitz. “Cathleen Naughton Associates is a respected provider of home health care in Rhode Island, and our mission and goals are aligned. [The acquisition] is a great fit.”

If the deal is approved by the state, St. Elizabeth Community would serve more than 2,200 seniors a year, he added.

Established in 1978 by Cathleen Naughton, a registered nurse, the business is currently managed by her daughter, Caroline Naughton Rumowicz. Rumowicz will continue to manage and maintain both offices. With state health department approval, Rumowicz is expected to join the leadership team of St. Elizabeth Community, Horowitz added.

“St. Elizabeth Community has a reputation for excellence,” says Rumowicz, “and we are confident that Rhode Island seniors will benefit from our decision.”

St. Elizabeth Community has six member organizations: St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich; St. Elizabeth Manor in Bristol, St. Elizabeth Court and St. Elizabeth Place, both in Providence; St. Elizabeth Terrace in Warwick, and Cornerstone Adult Services, with locations in Warwick, Coventry, Bristol and Little Compton.
