Starkweather & Shepley acquires Fla. insurance agency

FORT MYERS, Fla. – An East Providence-based insurance company has acquired a Naples, Fla., company, adding to its growing presence in Florida.
The insurer, Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc., acquired Port Royal Insurance Agency, which relocated to join S&S offices in Fort Myers, according to a press release.
Port Royal, previously owned by Christina Loome, served property and casualty insurance to Naples residents for six years before the acquisition. The East Providence insurer’s Florida arm, S&S Insurance Solutions of Florida, will expand services to the newly acquired company’s client base, which includes homeowners, automobile, boat and commercial insurance, according to the release.
“Port Royal Insurance allows us to expand our presence in the Naples area, as S&S Solutions of Florida continues to implement our growth strategy in southwest Florida, both organically and through quality acquisitions,” said Mark Levine, president of S&S Insurance Solutions of Florida, in a statement.
S&S is Rhode Island’s largest independent agency and bills itself as the 69th largest insurance brokerage firm in the United States. Headquartered in East Providence, it has branches outside of the Ocean State in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Florida.
