Starkweather & Shepley expands in Conn. with acquisition

EAST PROVIDENCE – Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc. has acquired Ansonia, Conn.-based independent insurance agency Ned Miller Associates, the company announced Wednesday.

Ned Miller Associations – a personal and commercial insurance agency specializing in business insurance and serving municipalities, fast food restaurants and auto dealers – is Starkweather & Shepley’s second acquisition in Connecticut and its fourth acquisition this year.

“The acquisition of the Ned Miller Agency helps us to continue our growth strategy in the Connecticut marketplace,” Nat Calamis, Starkweather & Shepley’s president and CEO, said in prepared remarks. “Led by Ned Miller, this agency brings to Starkweather & Shepley a talented and experienced professional organization, which will strengthen our service and sales capabilities.”

The Ansonia, Conn.-based company will operate as Ned Miller Agency, a division of Starkweather & Shepley. The firm’s entire staff will stay on and Ned Miller, as president, will continue to lead the agency.
