Starkweather & Shepley expands service into Conn.

EAST PROVIDENCE – Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc. has acquired the Bristol, Conn.-based Fradette/Carlson Insurance Agency and expanded its coverage area into Connecticut, the firm announced Monday.

The Connecticut agency will keep its current name, but will act as a division of Starkweather & Shepley. Greg Fradette Sr. and Michael Carlson will lead the firm as president and vice president, respectively.

The entire staff of the Fradette/Carlson Agency will remain in Bristol. “The added resources that Starkweather & Shepley brings to our agency will further strengthen our service capabilities,” Fradette said in a release announcing the acquisition.

“This is a great opportunity for us to expand our insurance products and services into a new marketplace,” Nat Calamis, president and CEO of Starkweather & Shepley, said in prepared remarks. “Part of our growth strategy has always included expanding into [Connecticut], but have never really found the right fit.”

“The Fradette/Carlson Agency, its reputation for solid insurance services and its location in Bristol accomplishes everything we were looking for. … We are very excited,” added Calamis.

Headquartered in East Providence, the firm also has offices in Warwick, Westerly, Martha’s Vineyard and Westwood, Mass.
