Starkweather & Shepley makes Business Insurance Magazine list

EAST PROVIDENCE – Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc. last week announced it has once again made Business Insurance Magazine’s Top 100 List of Insurance Brokerages in the United States, ranking is No. 76 overall.
The Rhode Island-based insurer, founded in 1879, reported 2.8 percent year-over-year growth in 2014 U.S. revenue, according to the list.
“In the past couple of years organic growth and strategic acquisitions in Connecticut and Florida have increased our presence in the market place,” said Nat Calamis, president and CEO, in a statement. “These acquisitions and our initiative to focus on specific practice groups have allowed us to grow organically as a company.”
The insurance company is growing its footprint. In June announced an acquisition of East Berlin, Conn.,-based McDonough & Keegan Insurance Agency and in December it announced the acquisition of Naples, Fla.,-based insurance agency Community Imperial Agency.
The company reports 2014 U.S. revenue totaling $42.5 million, according to Business Insurance, which bases its list on 2014 brokerage revenue generated by U.S.-based clients. Starkweather & Shepley employs more than 200 Rhode Islanders in several insurance fields, according to the company. This year the company was named the largest independent insurance agency employer in Rhode Island, according to PBN research.
“Our solid customer service, great company relationship and hardworking staff are key components to the continued growth and success at Sarkweather and Shepley,” Calamis said.
