(Corrected, 12 p.m.)

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. State Council on the Arts has announced the 76 winners of its grants program.

The arts council awarded a total of $209,712 in state and federal funds last month. Nearly 1,500 artists will be employed and more than 117,000 individuals will benefit from the grants, the agency said in a news release. It had 238 applicants to this grants round.

The grants went to individual artists, arts organizations, schools and educational organizations.

“The arts are an important part of the Rhode Island economy,” said RISCA Director Randall Rosenbaum. “Each grant we award helps to employ an artist, even for a short period of time, and those artists – our neighbors – help support local businesses by paying rent, buying groceries and by providing cultural programs in our communities.”
