SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A $700,000 grant from the state has been awarded to the University of Rhode Island’s Institute for Integrated Health and Innovation to test the planning and implementation of a federally funded program that evaluates health care reform models.
The three-year grant award was announced by the university on Thursday.
The institute’s interim director, Bryan Blissmer, said the school was chosen because of its expertise in population health.
He added: “The Institute can marshal the expertise at the university and among our external partners to help Rhode Island transform health care across communities and throughout the system.”
Institute researchers, as well as Brown University and URI employees, will evaluate processes, systems and outcomes for all components, identifying obstacles and successes and helping the state to create effective and efficient models to transform the health system.
The grant, “Rhode Island State Innovation Model Test Evaluation,” was presented to URI’s institute, which is part of the Academic Health Collaborative, by the R.I. Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
