PROVIDENCE – This year’s 11th annual Iron Pour fundraiser brought in more than $30,000, the most the event has ever netted. Funds will go to support Steel Yard programs like the Weld to Work job training program, artist residencies and open enrollment class scholarships.

Howie Sneider, executive director of the Steel Yard, looks forward to this event all year.

“We get together to marvel at the work of these industrial performers,” he said.

The Steel Yard hosted more than 1,500 spectators for the Oct. 22 event and Sneider credited its success with the increased food vendors, including Boru Barbecue and Revival Brewing Co., and a performance by Alec Redfearn and the Eyesores.

“We sold out of online tickets, and despite the wild weather had a nearly full house,” he said.

The highlight of the evening was when 2,500 pounds of molten iron was melded into the form of H.P. Lovecraft’s mythical Cthulhu by artists from the Steel Yard and MassArt Iron Corps.

Sponsors of the Iron Pour included The H.P. Lovecraft Arts and Sciences Council, AAA Northeast, Adler’s Hardware, BankRI, Bentley Foundation, city of Providence, city of Providence Parks Department, Cumberland Foundry, The Dean, Fete Music Hall, The Foundry Associates L.P., KITE Architects, Holliston Sand, Headlight Hotel, Mid City Steel, Pannone Lopes Devereaux & West, Pawtucket Credit Union, R.I. State Council on the Arts and Revival Brewing Co.

The 2016 event also marked the largest number of sponsors in Iron Pour history, said Sally Turner, Steel Yard development director. “Local businesses see the value of supporting the local arts and our strong community ties.”
