Stephen N. Baker has been appointed director of public safety at the University of Rhode Island, where he will oversee police and security operations. Previously, he served as major of the URI police department. He holds a B.A. in criminal justice from Salve Regina University and an M.A. in administration of justice from the Newport School. •
