Students, teacher earn computing recognition

PROVIDENCE – The National Center for Women & Information Technology, along with two Rhode Island institutions, have recognized five students and an educator with its Award for Aspirations in Computing.
The center, along with Roger Williams University and the Tech Collective, presented the awards on April 23 at the RWU Baypoint Inn and Conference Center in Portsmouth.
The awards honor young high school-aged women for computing achievements and interests as part of the Aspirations in Computing Program.
Student winners were: Ellen Bamberg, a senior at LaSalle Academy; Antoinette Bongiorno, a senior at Smithfield High School; Hannah Deen, a senior at Rogers High School in Newport; Becky Souriyavong, a senior at Woonsocket High School; and Nora Wallace, a junior at North Kingstown High School.
The winning IT educator was Michael Carlino, who teaches math at Rogers High. •
