From top brass to junior attorneys, paralegals and receptionist, the staff at Taylor Duane Barton & Gilman LLP in Providence work together and play together. And occasionally listen to really loud music.

All in all, it helps make the law firm one of the Best Places To Work for 2012, an accolade the firm has won for five consecutive years, including taking home top honors for small companies in 2011.

“Everyone here supports one another on every level,” said Tim Groves, an associate attorney at the firm.

In a survey, workers said what makes the firm a great place to be is the respect and opportunity offered to all, from the receptionist (who is called “the face and voice of our firm,” the survey said), to the most-senior attorney.

The firm also promotes from within. And it also cares for the staff’s physical well-being, offering sponsorship of employee participation in 5K events for charity.

The feel-good appeal extends outside the firm. Lawyers here are active in the Roger Williams Law School Pro Bono Collaborative and partner with Bradley Hospital to file guardianship petitions for children near the age of 18 with disabilities.

And then there is the loud music, which is said to promote creativity and relaxation. Helping each other, as they help clients and charitable or nonprofit groups, makes it a great place to work.

“I never hesitate to ask for help,” Groves said. “Whether it’s a legal issue or a community-service project, everyone is willing to take the time to provide guidance and lend a hand.” •
